This Aarti is sung to invoke the blessings of Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles and the God of wisdom and success in Hindu tradition. It is often performed during various Hindu ceremonies and festivals dedicated to Lord Ganesha.

Jay Ganesh is a Hindu religious song for the deity Ganesh. Traditionally Lord Ganesh, son of Mahadev Shiva, is worshipped first among all Gods. Lord Ganesh bestows wisdom and removes all obstacles which might come while performing auspicious work. Hence Lord Ganesh is worshipped first while starting all Pujas and auspicious activities. The prayer is sung by the entire congregation at the time of Aarti, a form of Hindu worship.
