Varanasi, February 9, 2026: With the departure of Magha, the arrival of the Phalguna month is being heard in the streets of Kashi starting today. In Kashi (Varanasi), the beloved city of Lord Shiva, the month of Phalguna is not just a calendar change but the beginning of the celebration of the union of 'Shiva and Shakti'.
Due to today being Monday, a massive crowd of devotees has gathered at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple. With the Phalguna month approaching, a significant increase in the enthusiasm of Shiva devotees coming for the Darshan of Baba is being observed. In view of the increasing number of devotees, the temple administration has initiated discussions on a new roadmap for security and queue management.
The administration has already geared up for Maha Shivratri, which arrives at the end of this month. To ensure accessible Darshan of Baba Vishwanath, 'Ashtayam' Aarti and special Shiva Archana are being organized. For the millions of tourists and Shiva devotees visiting Kashi during Phalguna, plans have been made for special cleanliness drives and decorations from the Ganga Ghats to the temple complex.
The month of Phalguna in Kashi is not just about worship; it is also a confluence of music and folk arts. The echoes of special Phalguna hymns can now be heard during the evening Aarti at the Ghats. Preparations for special rituals for Maha Shivratri have also intensified in local Akharas and monasteries.
