Varanasi/Haridwar: Today, Monday, March 23, 2026, marks the fifth day of Chaitra Navratri. This day is dedicated to the Maa Skandamata manifestation of Adi-Shakti. The name 'Skandamata' literally means 'The Mother of Skanda.' Skanda is another name for Lord Kartikeya, the commander-in-chief of the celestial army. This form of the Mother represents the pinnacle of affection, love, and maternal care.

Maa Skandamata is depicted with four arms. With her upper right arm, she holds Lord Skanda (the infant Kartikeya) in her lap. She holds lotus flowers in two of her hands, while her fourth hand is held in the Abhaya Mudra (gesture of blessing). Being the presiding deity of the solar system (Suryamandala), her appearance is exceptionally radiant, luminous, and pure.
