Chaitra Navratri 2026 Day 5: Unlock the Gates to Salvation with Maa Skandamata; The Secret of Her Maternal Form

Varanasi/Haridwar: Today, Monday, March 23, 2026, marks the fifth day of Chaitra Navratri. This day is dedicated to the Maa Skandamata manifestation of Adi-Shakti. The name 'Skandamata' literally means 'The Mother of Skanda.' Skanda is another name for Lord Kartikeya, the commander-in-chief of the celestial army. This form of the Mother represents the pinnacle of affection, love, and maternal care.

Since today is Monday, the day of Lord Shiva, the inclusion of the 'Shiva element' in this worship of Shakti significantly enhances its spiritual importance.

The Divine Form of Skandamata

Maa Skandamata is depicted with four arms. With her upper right arm, she holds Lord Skanda (the infant Kartikeya) in her lap. She holds lotus flowers in two of her hands, while her fourth hand is held in the Abhaya Mudra (gesture of blessing). Being the presiding deity of the solar system (Suryamandala), her appearance is exceptionally radiant, luminous, and pure.

Special Significance and Benefits of Worship

  • Attainment of Salvation (Moksha): For devotees who worship Skandamata, the doors to liberation are flung open. The seeker experiences profound inner peace.

  • Blessing of Progeny: For couples facing obstacles in conceiving a child, today’s worship is considered a "sovereign remedy" or a divine blessing.

  • Intellect and Wisdom: Since Lord Kartikeya is the symbol of supreme knowledge, worshipping his mother sharpens the intellect and wisdom of the devotee.

Special Guidelines (Tips for Today):

  • Auspicious Color (White): Wear White clothing today. This color symbolizes purity, peace, and represents the Moon associated with Monday.

  • Favorite Offering (Banana): Maa Skandamata is extremely fond of Bananas. It is believed that offering this fruit brings improved physical health.

  • Special Mantra: Chant this mantra 108 times this evening:

"Simhasanagata nityam padmashritakardvaya | Shubhadastu sada devi skandamata yashasvini ||"
