The Law of Destiny: When Even Rama and Krishna Couldn't Alter Fate, Why the Obsession with Auspicious Timings?

New Delhi: We often rely on "Shubh Muhurats" (auspicious timings), astrology, and remedies to remove obstacles from our lives. But have you ever wondered why Lord Rama—whose wedding and coronation were scheduled by omniscient sages—faced such immense hardships? Why did his married life deviate so far from what was planned, and why was his coronation delayed by fourteen years of exile?

The Truth of Sage Vashistha: An Eternal Philosophy

When Bharata questioned Sage Vashistha about the tragic turn of events in Lord Rama's life, the great Sage replied with tears in his eyes. His response remains a guiding light for humanity:

"Sunahu Bharata Bhaavi Prabal, Bilakhi Kahehu Muninaath | Laabh Haani, Jeevan Maran, Yash Apayash Vidhi Haath ||"

This translates to: "Listen, Bharata, Destiny is supreme. Profit and loss, life and death, fame and infamy—all are in the hands of the Divine Law (Vidhi)." Fate is incredibly powerful and cannot be bypassed.

Even Divine Powers Accepted the Decree of Fate

History and scriptures prove that even the greatest divine entities did not interfere with the Law of Destiny:

  • Mahadev and Sati: Lord Shiva himself is 'Mahamrityunjaya' (the conqueror of death), yet he did not avert the death of Goddess Sati, as it was an integral part of the cosmic cycle (Kaalchakra).

  • The Sacrifice of Sikh Gurus: Guru Arjan Dev Ji, Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji, and the tenth father Guru Gobind Singh Ji were all-powerful and capable of changing circumstances. Yet, they accepted the "Will of God" for the protection of Dharma.

  • Saints and Great Souls: Realized saints like Ramakrishna Paramahansa could have healed their own cancer, but they chose to respect the laws of nature and physical existence.

The Ego of Power Fails Before Fate

Mighty warriors like Ravana and Kansa, who possessed immense supernatural powers and Siddhis, could not change their destined ends. A human being arrives at birth with a predetermined map of their lifespan, reputation, health, and family.

Conclusion: Simplicity is the Only Path

When there is no chosen 'Muhurat' for birth, nor one for the final departure from this world, why burden the time in between with endless anxiety? The essence of this realization is that one should remain simple and balanced. Immerse yourself in righteous deeds (Satkarma) through your mind, actions, and speech. What is destined to happen will happen; therefore, renounce unnecessary attachments and fears, and stay centered in the Divine.
