Surajkund Mela 2026: A Grand Festival of Culture, Handicrafts, and Global Unity

New Delhi/Faridabad: The Surajkund International Crafts Mela, India's largest and most renowned handicrafts fair, has kicked off with great enthusiasm in its 39th edition. The mela began on January 31, 2026, and will continue until February 15, 2026. Held amidst the picturesque Aravalli Hills in Surajkund, Faridabad (Haryana), this 16-day celebration is attracting millions of tourists, art enthusiasts, and artisans.

Traditionally held in the first half of February each year, the 2026 edition started a bit earlier. Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan inaugurated the event, and over 30,000 visitors flocked in during the first weekend alone.

Key Highlights and Theme This year's mela is themed "Local to Global" (emphasizing Atmanirbhar Bharat), showcasing how local artisans gain international recognition. The theme states are Uttar Pradesh and Meghalaya. Uttar Pradesh is captivating visitors with its chikankari, zardozi, carpet weaving, pottery, and delicious Lucknow-Varanasi cuisine. Meghalaya is highlighting its tribal art, handicrafts, and Northeast Indian culture.

Egypt is participating as the Partner Nation. Its pavilion, inspired by the Pyramids, Luxor temples, and Cairo markets, features ancient Egyptian art, crafts, and cultural performances, adding an international flair to the event.

The fair boasts over 1,230 stalls, including more than 50 foreign ones. Visitors can explore handicrafts, handlooms, textiles, folk art, music, dance, and regional cuisines from various Indian states. Evenings come alive with colorful lighting, folk performances, and vibrant cultural programs.
