According to the Hindu calendar, Masik Shivratri is observed on the Chaturdashi date of Krishna Paksha every month. This fast symbolizes the union of Lord Shiva and Shakti. "Masik" means month, and "Shivratri" means the night of Lord Shiva. Masik Shivratri Vrat is a sacred medium to get the blessings of Lord Shiva and complete the difficult tasks of life.
According to Indian mythology, Lord Shiva appeared in the form of Linga on the midnight of Mahashivratri. Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma first worshipped the Shivling. While Mahashivratri is celebrated once a year, Masik Shivratri provides an opportunity to worship Lord Shiva every month.
