The devotion of Shiva bhakts towards Baba Barfani is on track to shatter all past records this year. On one hand, the grueling mountain terrain and unpredictable weather are testing the grit of the pilgrims; on the other hand, a massive wave of faith has taken over the mountains, echoing with thunderous chants of 'Bam Bam Bhole'.
However, amidst this unprecedented rush, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has completely tightened its grip to maintain security and order. If you are planning to head toward the holy cave anytime soon, there are two major updates you absolutely need to know—one that will fill your heart with joy, and another that will ask you to stop and double-check your permits!
The 2026 Amarnath Yatra has scriptured history right at its inception. According to official data, more than 1 lakh 13 thousand devotees have already paid obeisance at the holy cave within the first five days of the pilgrimage.
Massive Daily Footfall: On a single peak day, more than 28,000 pilgrims crossed the gates to catch a glimpse of the shrine.
Continuous Convoys: Massive batches of eager travelers are being dispatched daily from the Bhagavati Nagar base camp in Jammu under heavily guarded security escorts, heading toward the Pahalgam and Baltal routes.
Unshakable Faith: Even with the widespread news of the natural ice lingam receding rapidly due to sudden temperature shifts, the enthusiasm of travelers coming from all corners of the country remains entirely untouched. People are simply drawn to step onto the sacred ground of the cave.
Observing this overwhelming influx and keeping the overarching safety of the public in mind, the Shri Amarnathji Shrाइन Board (SASB) and the J&K administration have issued a highly stringent and urgent advisory. The authorities have made it crystal clear: while faith is deeply respected, security and rules will not be compromised for anyone.
Here are the critical takeaways from the latest advisory that you must keep in mind:
Entry Allowed Only on the Designated Date: In strict compliance with Supreme Court guidelines, a daily ceiling on the number of pilgrims is rigidly enforced. Therefore, a traveler will be allowed to proceed on the tracks only on the exact date printed on their permit. Arriving ahead of schedule will result in being held back at the base camps.
No Registration, Absolute No Entry: Pilgrims who do not hold a valid, confirmed advance registration have been strictly requested not to move toward Jammu & Kashmir or the yatra highways. Multiple layers of checkpoints have been set up along the National Highway to screen and turn back unauthorized travelers.
RFID Cards Are Mandatory: The administration clarified that tracking RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) cards are being issued strictly to valid permit holders. Attempting to step onto the actual trekking route without an activated RFID card is completely prohibited.
Do Not Rely on Tatkal Slots: On-the-spot or Tatkal registration counters this year are extremely limited and subject purely to emergency slot availability. Leaving your hometown without a confirmed permit in hand is highly discouraged.
Look, if you already have a valid registration and a permit for these dates, go right ahead with an enthusiastic heart—the yatra infrastructure and management are running exceptionally smoothly on the ground. However, if you haven't booked your slots yet or if your scheduled date is weeks away, please do not crowd the highways or base camps prematurely. Cooperating with the local authorities ensures your own safety and the safety of thousands of fellow brothers and sisters trekking up the mountain.
Quick Checklist Before Leaving:
Keep your original Aadhaar Card and printed registration slip handy to collect your RFID card without hassle.
Mountain weather changes in minutes—carrying a rain poncho and light woolens is a must.
Strictly follow the guidelines issued by the security personnel and path marshals on the trail.
