Somnath Amrut Mahotsav: 75 Glorious Years of Resurrection and the Grand Festival of Cultural Victory

Today, a golden chapter in India's history has come alive once again. The 'Somnath Amrut Mahotsav', organized to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the reconstruction and Prana-Pratishtha (consecration) of the modern temple of Lord Somnath—the first Jyotirlinga—reached its magnificent crescendo today. At the very spot where the first President of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, realized a historic resolve on May 11, 1951, the triumphant echoes of India’s cultural consciousness are resonating today.

Kumbhabhishek and the Divine Sound of Conch Shells

The highlight of the festival was the 'Kumbhabhishek' ceremony held this morning. The golden Kalashas (urns) atop the temple’s soaring spire were anointed with sacred waters from 11 holy rivers and seas across the country. Throughout the ceremony, the atmosphere vibrated with chants of 'Har Har Mahadev' and the resounding blast of 151 conch shells. As Indian Air Force helicopters showered flower petals upon the temple amidst Vedic chanting, the eyes of thousands of gathered devotees welled up with pride.

The Victory Flag: An Echo of Self-Respect

In the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a new saffron Victory Flag (Vijay Dhwaj) was hoisted atop the temple spire. This flag is not merely a religious symbol; it is a testament to the indomitable willpower that resurrected Somnath after 17 waves of destruction. On this occasion, the Prime Minister also released a special commemorative coin and postage stamp, ensuring that future generations remember this historic day.

125,000 Lamps to Illuminate the Somnath Coast

The festival will conclude this evening with a grand 'Deepotsav', where 125,000 earthen lamps will be lit along the shores of the Arabian Sea. Additionally, the saga of Somnath’s 1,000 years of struggle and glory will be showcased through state-of-the-art 3D mapping and a light-and-sound show.

The Divine India extends its warmest wishes to all devotees on this holy occasion. The spire of Somnath will forever remind us that the power of creation is always greater than the power of destruction.
