Magh Month Sunday: A Grand Festival of Sun Worship - Why Today is Vital for Health and Prosperity

New Delhi, January 11, 2026: According to Vedic Astrology and the Hindu Calendar, the month of Magh is also known as 'Madhav Maas.' During this month, Lord Surya (the Sun God) moves towards the northern hemisphere (Uttarayana) with increasing intensity and energy. Today being Sunday—the day ruled by the Sun itself—creates a powerful celestial alignment. This combination perfectly embodies the ancient principle: "Arogyam Bhaskaradhicchet," which means "One should seek health and longevity from the Sun."

Astrological Significance of Magh and Sunday

In the month of Magh, solar radiation is believed to possess enhanced medicinal properties. From an astrological perspective, today is a "Day of Rectification" for those whose Sun is weak in their birth chart, or those facing a lack of confidence, obstacles in government-related work, or bone-related health issues.

  • Boost in Confidence: The Sun is the Atmakaraka (significator of the soul). Worshiping today brings mental clarity and strengthens decision-making abilities.

  • Relief from Pitra Dosha: The Sun represents the father and paternal ancestors. Offering 'Arghya' (water oblation) today is said to invoke the blessings of the ancestors.

Special Procedure for Sun Worship (Surya Puja Steps)

To attract the grace of Lord Surya today, follow these simple yet powerful steps:

  1. Brahma Muhurta Bath: Bathing before sunrise holds immense importance in the month of Magh. If possible, add a little Ganga Jal (holy water) and black sesame seeds to your bathing water.

  2. Offering Arghya: Fill a copper pot with fresh water. Add red sandalwood, kumkum (vermilion), Akshat (unbroken rice), and red flowers. Facing the Sun, pour the water slowly. Try to look at the Sun through the falling stream of water.

  3. Mantra Chanting: During or after offering water, chant this effective mantra at least 108 times:

"Om Hraam Hreem Hroum Sah Suryaya Namah" or the simple mantra "Om Suryaya Namah"

  4. Aditya Hrudayam Stotra: If you are facing major life crises or chronic illnesses, recite the Aditya Hrudayam Stotra. This is the same prayer Lord Rama recited to gain the strength to defeat Ravana.

Do's & Don'ts for Today

  • What to Do: Wear red-colored clothing. Donate copper, wheat, jaggery, or red cloth to the needy. Respect your father and consider giving him a small gift to strengthen your solar energy.

  • What to Avoid: Minimize salt consumption today (especially after sunset). Strictly avoid Tamasic food (meat and alcohol). Do not insult anyone, particularly the elders in your family.
