Kedarnath Dham Draped in Snow: Construction Halted Amid Heavy Snowfall

Rudraprayag, January 4, 2026: Nature has showcased its majestic form in the high Himalayan regions of Uttarakhand. Due to continuous snowfall over the last 24 hours, the holy Kedarnath Dham, the eleventh Jyotirlinga, is now completely draped in a thick blanket of pristine white snow. The temple complex, situated at an altitude of 11,755 feet, is currently buried under several feet of snow.

Impact on Master Plan Construction While the temple portals are closed for the winter season, reconstruction efforts under the ambitious 'Kedarnath Master Plan' were underway. However, the extreme cold and the relentless snow have forced the administration to temporarily halt all construction activities. Heavy machinery and construction materials are submerged in snow, and workers have been relocated to safer base camps.

Security Personnel Standing Guard Despite the bone-chilling cold and treacherous conditions, teams from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and the Uttarakhand Police remain stationed at the shrine. They are performing their duties diligently, ensuring the security of the temple and monitoring the area around the clock.

Weather Warning for the Next 48 Hours The Meteorological Department has issued a 'Yellow Alert' for the next two days, predicting further snowfall in the higher reaches of the state. Local authorities have advised people to refrain from venturing into high-altitude areas until weather conditions improve.
