🚩 Durban Transformed into a Sea of Saffron

The monumental congregation was envisioned and guided by Swami Abhedananda Sarasvati (Head of Chinmaya Mission South Africa). Swamiji’s vision was centered on uniting all South African Hindus beyond their age-old barriers of language or regional states of origin, uplifting the community with confidence, positivity, and deep-rooted religious identity.

At the conclusion of each round of chanting, the massive crowd waved thousands of vibrant saffron flags, transforming the entire arena into a breathtaking sea of saffron. Each of these flags bore the sacred image of Lord Hanuman and proudly read: 'I Am A Proud Hindu'. This grand celebration served as a magnificent tribute to H.H. Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda's ultimate goal to 'transform Hindus to Hinduism', alongside celebrating the 75th anniversary of the global Chinmaya Movement this year.

🎤 Bhajan Samrat Anup Jalota Specially Invited from India to Lead the Gathering

To elevate the divine vibrations of this assembly and lead the congregation through the 27 sacred rounds of the Hanuman Chalisa, the legendary Bhajan Samrat Shri Anup Jalota was specially invited from India. He was accompanied by the talented singer-actor Anuja Sahai. Shri Anup Jalota enthralled the audience by rendering the Hanuman Chalisa in various classical ragas, leaving the entire pandal spellbound.

The spiritual energy reached a crescendo during the final two rounds when Swami Abhedananda Ji and the entire crowd of 17,000+ devotees stood up in their seats. Tears of pure devotion flowed freely, more than 10,000 saffron flags waved in perfect harmony, and an astounding total of over 400,000 individual chants of the Hanuman Chalisa were completed.

🍲 Monumental Offering of 27,000 Rohts and Seamless Event Coordination

The event was not only a spiritual triumph but also a logistical masterpiece. Countless Chinmaya Sevaks worked tirelessly day and night to ensure smooth crowd management. While the original target was to host 10,000 attendees, Lord Hanuman's grace drew nearly double the number, crossing 17,000. Over 5,000 people arrived via 85 dedicated buses traveling across 5 different provinces of South Africa.

Volunteers cooked round the clock for an entire week leading up to the event to prepare a record-breaking 27,000 'Rohts' (a sweet delicacy central to local Hindu rituals) as a grand offering to Lord Hanuman, which was later distributed as prasad. Additionally, working from 11 PM the previous night until 11 AM on the event day, volunteers packed nearly 20,000 full lunch meals to ensure no devotee left the venue hungry.

Every attendee also received a complimentary gift bag containing spiritual books, altar photos of Lord Hanuman, a copy of the Hanuman Chalisa, and energized Sindoor Prasad.
