After killing Kansa, Lord Krishna reached the prison and freed his mother Devaki and father Vasudev from there. When Lord Krishna met his parents and touched their feet, mother Devaki became emotional and asked a question –
"Son Krishna! You are God, you have immense power. Then why did you let us remain in Kansa's captivity for fourteen years? Why did you not free us earlier?"
Lord Krishna smiled and said –
"Mother, forgive me. Don't you remember that in your previous birth you had sent me to exile for fourteen years?"
Mother Devaki said in surprise –
"Son! How is this possible? Why are you saying this?"
Then Lord Krishna replied –
"Mother, you don't remember your previous birth. At that time you were Kaikeyi and your husband was King Dasharath. You had exiled me. And the queen Kaushalya whom you had deprived of the love of a son for fourteen years, has become mother Yashoda in this birth."
Mother Devaki was stunned to hear these words of Lord Krishna.
This incident gives a deep message that every creature in this world has to suffer the consequences of his actions. Even the gods are not free from their deeds.
