Shri Ram Vanvas Yatra Route - From Ayodhya to Lanka

Whenever we read or listen to the story of Ramayana, one particular part touches our heart deeply – Shri Ram's exile. It was not just a political decision, but a divine journey that became an example of sacrifice, love, dignity and religion. Shri Ram not only renounced his kingdom, but also touched every corner of India for 14 years where his footprints are still present.

Shri Ram's exile was not just the story of a prince renouncing his kingdom, but was a great saga of religion, dignity, love and penance. This journey started from North India and spread to the far shores of the South – a padayatra that woven India into a cultural thread. Let us understand this divine path step by step:

  • Ayodhya : Beginning of exile. When Shri Ram, Sita and Lakshman left the palace and headed towards the forest.
  • Prayag (Triveni Sangam) : Here he met sage Bharadwaj. He told him the way to Chitrakoot.
  • Chitrakoot (Uttar Pradesh): The most emotional scene of Bharat Milaap happened here. The initial time of exile was spent here.
  • Satna (Madhya Pradesh): The difficult journey of the forest path starts from here. Dense forests and ascetic life begin.
  • Ramtek (Maharashtra): This place is also associated with the Ramayana period, it is believed that Lord Rama rested here for some time.
  • Panchvati (Nashik, Maharashtra): This is where the demoness Shurpanakha conspired to kidnap Sita Mata. The story of Ravana's end begins from here.
  • Bhandardara, Tuljapur: Here too, Shri Ram's brief stay is mentioned.
  • Sureban, Koppal, Hampi (Karnataka): This area is connected to the dense forests of the south where Shri Ram met many sages.
  • Karigud (Karnataka): This place is mentioned in the Ramayana Yatra route as a stopover during the struggle.
  • Tiruchirappalli, Ramanathapuram, Kodikkarai (Tamil Nadu): Here Shri Ram worshipped the sea and a plan was made to build a bridge (Ram Setu) on the sea.
  • Rameshwaram: Here Lord Shiva was established - Shri Rameshwaram Jyotirlinga. Ram Setu started from here.
  • Sri Lanka (present: Vasgamuwa, Dunuvila, Vantherumulai): Here Ravana was killed and Dharma was victorious with the Agni Pariksha of Mother Sita.
