Karma Can Change Destiny: When Yamraj Was Stunned by Sudama's Fortune

Dwarka/Vrindavan: In Sanatan Dharma, Prarabdha (Destiny) is often considered unchangeable. However, Lord Krishna, the lover of His devotees, proved through the story of Sudama that loving 'Karma' can erase and rewrite the lines of fate. Let’s explore the episode when Yamraj himself reached Dwarka with his ledgers of accounts.

Yamraj’s Arrival at Dwarka and His Concern

When Lord Krishna, pleased by Sudama's devotion, made him the master of the three worlds, Yamraj fell into a state of confusion. He reached Dwarka with his record books and said to the Lord— "O Bhagwan! If you continue to forgive sinners and call them directly to Your abode, and grant the wealth of the three worlds to a man as poor as Sudama, what is my purpose in Yampuri? It seems the laws of destiny are nearing an end."

The Journey from 'Shrikshay' to 'Yakshashri'

Yamraj argued that Sudama’s destiny was marked with lifelong poverty. Hearing this, the Lord smiled and asked Yamraj to look at his ledger once more. When Yamraj opened the page, he was stunned.

  • Flipping the Script: Where Sudama's fate had 'Shrikshay' (Destruction of Wealth) written, the Lord Himself had reversed the letters to write 'Yakshashri' (The Wealth of Kubera).

  • The Lord’s Logic: Bhagwan said, "Yamraj, Sudama offered his everything to Me. The rice he fed Me with love was his entire life's capital."

The Power of True Offering

Lord Krishna explained to Yamraj that anyone who feeds Him with love gains the merit (Punya) equivalent to feeding the entire universe. The boundless wealth Sudama received was merely the fruit of those few handfuls of rice. The Lord’s compassion has many such examples:

  • Draupadi’s Bowl: By eating just a single leaf of grain left in Draupadi’s vessel, the Lord satiated Sage Durvasa and his thousands of disciples along with the entire universe, saving the Pandavas from a terrible curse.

Conclusion: The Mathematics of Devotion

This story teaches us that God is not hungry for material objects; He hungers for the emotion (Bhaav) behind the offering. When a person offers their 'Karma' to the Lord with a selfless heart, the Lord transforms the poverty of their destiny into 'Yakshashri'.

Hail Lord Dwarkadhish! 🙏🌹
