The holy month of Shravan (Sawan) has begun, bringing spiritual devotion across the nation. Mondays in Sawan hold an extraordinary religious significance for Lord Shiva devotees. This year, the First Sawan Somwar falls on August 3, 2026.
Observing a fast and performing Jalabhishek (holy water ritual) on the very first Monday of Sawan is believed to bring peace, prosperity, and fulfill the heartfelt wishes of devotees.

Pure water and Gangajal
Raw milk, curd, honey, desi ghee, and jaggery/sugar (for Panchamrit)
Fresh Belpatra leaves (intact 3-leaf clusters)
Dhatura, Bhaang, Shami leaves, and Aak (Madar) flowers
White Sandalwood paste, Bhasma (sacred ash), and Akshat (unbroken rice grains)
Dhoop, Diya, Camphor, and fresh seasonal fruits
Morning Preparation: Wake up during Brahma Muhurat, take a holy bath, and wear clean clothes. Take a pledge (Sankalp) for the Sawan Somwar Vrat.
Abhishekam: Offer pure water mixed with Gangajal on the Shivling. Perform Dugdh-abhishek using raw milk or Panchamrit, followed by another rinse of fresh water.
Chandan & Bhasma: Apply white sandalwood paste and offer Bhasma along with unbroken rice grains.
Offerings: While chanting "Om Namah Shivaya", offer Belpatra (smooth side facing the Shivling), Dhatura, and flowers.
Aarti & Bhog: Light a ghee lamp and incense stick, perform the Shiva Aarti, offer fruits as Bhog, and seek forgiveness for any unintentional mistakes.
