New Delhi: Today, Monday, April 13, 2026, the 'Varuthini Ekadashi' of the Krishna Paksha of the Vaishakh month is being celebrated. In the scriptures, this Ekadashi is considered immensely beneficial and a granter of good fortune. The word 'Varuthini' is derived from the Sanskrit word 'Varuthin,' which means 'Protector' or 'Shield.' It is believed that for those who worship the 'Varaha' avatar of Lord Vishnu today, this fast acts as a shield, protecting them from every crisis.
According to sacred texts, the merit earned from this Ekadashi is considered equivalent to performing penance for ten thousand years.
Attainment of Good Fortune: This fast makes a person worthy of heaven, much like the legendary King Mandhata.
Atonement for Sins: It is the best day to seek penance for physical and mental sins committed knowingly or unknowingly.
Liberation from Sufferings: Occurring in the holy month of Vaishakh, this fast provides not only spiritual peace but also removes obstacles from one's life.
Puja Timing: The auspicious Muhurat has already begun this morning. Perform the Abhishek of Lord Vishnu using Ganga water.
Special Offerings: On this day, ensure you offer yellow flowers, seasonal fruits (Muskmelon/Mango), and Tulsi leaves to Shri Hari.
Varuthini Ekadashi Mantra: Chant this mantra during the worship:
"Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya"
Listening to the Legend: The full benefit of the fast is achieved only when you read or listen to the ancient legend (Vrat Katha) of Varuthini Ekadashi.
Renounce Rice: Consuming rice on the day of Ekadashi is strictly prohibited.
Sattvic Diet: Even if you are not observing the fast, stay away from Tamsic food (onion, garlic, meat, and alcohol) today.
Virtue: Refrain from criticizing others and try to practice silence (Mauna).
The fast will be broken (Parana) tomorrow, April 14, 2026, after sunrise.
