Mithila Shakti Peeth is one of the religious places of the Hindus. In the Mithila Shakti Peeth, left shoulder of Mother Sati had fallen. It is believed that there is still a difference between the fixed place of Mithila Shaktipeeth i.e. there is a lot of opinion about the correct place. Mithila Shaktipeeth is considered to be the Shaktipeeth of the temples of three main places.

  1. The first place is believed to be in Nepal, which is 'Vanadurgo Temple' at the uchchaith place of Madhubani, 15 kilometers east from Janakpur.
  2.  The second place is 61 km away from Samastipur in Bihar state of India and 'Jeyamangala Devi Temple', nine kilometers from Saluna Railway Station.
  3. The third place is the ' Ugratara temple' situated near Saharsa station in Bihar state of India.

Mithila Shaktipeeth is believed to be situated in Darbhanga on the border of India and Nepal. This place is considered to be more popular than other places. In this temple, idol of Goddess Uma and Lord Mahodar is situated in this temple.

This temple is one of the 51 Shaktipeeths of Mother. In this temple Shakti is worshiped as 'Uma' or 'Mahadevi' and Bhairav ​​is worshiped as 'Mahodar'. According to the Puranas, wherever the pieces of the sati, the clothes or the ornaments held, have fallen, wherever Shaktipeeth came into existence. They are called the most sacred shrines. These shrines are spread across the entire Indian subcontinent.

According to mythology, Goddess Sati gave her life by jumping into the fire of Havan organised by her father King Daksheshwara. When Lord Shiva was running around the earth carrying her body then Lord Vishnu divided the body in 51 parts using his Sudarshan chakra. Out of those 51 parts, from which the 'left shoulder' of Sati fell to this place.
