Fast Story :
The fast story of Mohini Ekadashi is as follows. It is said that once upon a time there used to be a very beautiful city called Bhadravati where a king named Dhritimana used to rule. The king was very pious. Under his rule, the subjects also participated in religious programs. A Vaishya named Dhanpal also lived in this city. Dhanapala was an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu and a virtuous Seth. He had five children by the grace of Lord Vishnu. His youngest son's name was Dhritabuddhi. He got this name because of his arrogance. The remaining four sons were very good like father. But Dhrishtbuddha did not leave any sinful act which he had not done. Fed up, the father evicted him. The brothers also broke up with such a sinful brother. The arrogant intellect which used to be a blessing on the hard work of father and brothers, now he started stumbling rate after rate. Aisho was resting and left to eat. The only virtues of a previous birth would be that he wandered in the ashram of the wandering Koundilya. He fell at the feet of Maharishi. Burning in the fire of repentance, he began to become somewhat holy. Told Maharishi his complete agony and wanted to know the remedy of repentance. At that time, the sage Muni used to guide the refugee and also told the Pathak the ways of attaining salvation. The sage said that the Ekadashi of Vaishakh Shukla is very virtuous. Fast it, you will get freedom. Dhritabuddhi fasted on Vaishak Shukla Ekadashi i.e. Mohini Ekadashi according to the law of Maharishi. After this, he got rid of the sins and attained salvation.
