Bhagavad Gita Chapter 7, Verse 6

This verse is from Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 7, Verse 6. It is written in Sanskrit and translated into Hindi as:

etad-yonīni bhūtāni sarvāṇītyupadhāraya
ahaṁ kṛitsnasya jagataḥ prabhavaḥ pralayas tathā ||6||

English translation:

"O Arjuna! All the beings in this world have originated from both my material and sentient natures. Know that I am the root cause of the whole universe – creation originates from me and destruction also returns to me."

Detailed explanation:

Here Lord Krishna is teaching us a profound secret of life.

He says -

"This whole universe, all its creations, everything is born from me and ultimately dissolves into me."

Just as children are born from the heart of a mother, so this whole universe has emerged from the existence of the Lord.

And just as one lovingly gathers one’s children back into one’s lap, the whole world ultimately returns to the shelter of God.

God reminds us that we are not a small part of this infinite creation —
we are a part of the same Supreme Being.
The day we realize this, the attachments and fears of the world disappear.
Then we know that our real home is in God.

Hindi meaning of Sanskrit words:

  • etad-yonini – born from these two natures
  • bhutani – all beings
  • sarvani – all
  • upadhaaraya – understand, know well
  • aham – I
  • kritsnasya – the whole
  • jagatah – of the universe
  • prabhavah – cause of origin
  • pralayah – destruction or dissolution
  • tatha – and also

In short:

Lord Krishna wants to tell that not only this physical universe runs by His power, but the conscious being (jivatma) is also a part of His divine power. The entire universe begins and ends with the Lord.
