Have you ever heard of Bhadra, whose name is invoked before any auspicious work? According to Indian astrology and mythology, the time of Bhadra is considered inauspicious for auspicious tasks. Let's learn about her and her significance.
Bhadra is the daughter of Lord Surya and the sister of Shani. In mythology, Bhadra was considered a deity who would ruin auspicious tasks. Her nature worried everyone, especially her father, Surya Deva.
Worried about Bhadra's destructive nature, Surya Deva sought help from Brahma, the creator of the universe. He prayed to Brahma to pacify Bhadra and give her a place where she could live peacefully and not interfere with the world's affairs.
Brahma lovingly explained to Bhadra and told her a rule:
"If anyone performs any auspicious work during your time (i.e., Bhadra Kaal), you may interfere. However, you will not interfere with those who perform auspicious work outside your time (i.e., outside Bhadra Kaal)."
Thus, Brahma gave Bhadra a special place in the Panchang (Hindu calendar), called 'Vishti Karan'.
Because of this legend, Bhadra is considered an inauspicious time in astrology. No major or important auspicious work, such as marriage, house warming, starting a new journey, or inaugurating a new business, is performed during Bhadra Kaal. It is believed that any work undertaken during this time faces obstacles or fails.
Therefore, whenever an auspicious time is determined, the presence of Bhadra is first considered.
