In Sanatana Dharma, fasts and festivals are not merely rituals; they infuse positivity, hope, and spiritual enthusiasm into daily life. One such deeply benevolent observance is 'Asha Dashami Vrat'. As the name suggests—'Asha' signifies 'Hope'. According to ancient scriptures, observing this fast with pure devotion fulfills unfulfilled desires and removes despair from one's life.

🌺 Sacred Prayer Mantra & Meaning

On the day of Asha Dashami, devotees should invoke the Goddesses of the Ten Directions (Asha Devis) by chanting this holy Shloka:

Ashashchashah Sada Santu Siddhiyantam Me Manorathah।
Bhavatinam Prasadena Sada Kalyanamastitvati॥

Meaning: "O Devis of Hope! May you always fulfill my hopes, grant success to all my noble endeavors, and through your divine grace, shower everlasting well-being upon me."

📿 Asha Dashami Vrat Udyapan Vidhi (From Bhavishya Purana)

According to Chapter 64 of the Uttara Parva in the Bhavishya Purana, the authentic procedure for concluding the fast (Udyapan Vidhi) is outlined as follows:

  1. Creating & Worshipping the Devis: On the day of Udyapan, according to one's means, the practitioner should draw or craft representations of the Asha Devis in the courtyard using gold, silver, or colored rice flour (Pishtataka) and perform their ritual worship.

  2. Prayers for Fulfillment: Light lamps before the ten Asha Devis and pray for the fulfillment of your wishes. Along with the Devis, offer prayers to all constellations (Nakshatras), planets (Grahas), stars, Nakshatra-Matrikas, spirits, and Lord Vinayaka (Ganesha) to grant success.

  3. Sixteen-Step Worship (Shodashopachara): Perform the worship offering incense (Dhup), lamps (Deep), fragrance, flowers, fruits, garments, and holy water (Abhisheka).

  4. Night Vigil (Jagaran): On the night of Udyapan, married women should observe a devotional night vigil accompanied by sacred music, singing, and dancing.

  5. Charity & Seeking Forgiveness: The next morning, respectfully present all used puja items to a learned Vedic Brahmin along with Kumkum, Akshat, Tambula (betel leaf), and Dakshina according to your capacity. Pray for forgiveness for any intentional or unintentional mistakes made during the ritual before bidding them farewell.

  6. Partaking in Prasad: Conclude the ceremony by partaking in the holy Prasad along with family members and relatives.

🌸 Spiritual Significance (Mahatmya)

The scriptural glorification of Asha Dashami proves that this fast must be observed for the realization of rare and difficult-to-achieve goals. It is considered exceptionally fruitful, health-bestowing, and auspicious, especially for women.
