What is "Pitra-Dosh"?
When these ancestors of ours look at their family from the subtle and wide body, and feel that the people of our family neither have respect for us, nor do they have any love or affection, nor do they remember us on any occasion. If neither do nor try to repay their debts, then these souls become unhappy and curse their descendants, which is called "Pitra-Dosh".
Puranokta Pitra-Stotra:
Arcitānāmamūrtānāṁ pitr̥ṇāṁ dīptatējasām.
Namasyāmi sadā tēṣāṁ dhyānīṁ divyacakṣuṣām.
Indrādīna ca nētārō dākṣamīcyōstathā.
Tān namasyām sarvān pinapsūdhāvapi.
Nakṣatrāṁ grahāṁ ca vāyvagn'yōrnabhasathā.
Tathāvāpr̥thivyōśca namasyāmi kr̥tān̄jaliḥ.
Dēvarṣīṇāṁ janitānśca sarvalōkanamaskr̥tān.
Akṣayya sadā dātr̥n namasyē̕haṁ kr̥tān̄jaliḥ.
Prajāpataṁ kaśyapaya sōmaya varūṇaya ca.
Yōgēśvarēbhyaśca sadā namasyāmi kr̥tān̄jaliḥ.
Namō gaṇēbhyaḥ saptabhyastathā lōkēṣu saptasu.
Svayambhuvē namasyāmi brahmaṇē yōgacakṣuṣē.
Sōmādhārān pitr̥gaṇān yōgamūrtidharānstathā.
Namasyāmi tathā sōma pitaraṁ jagatāmaham.
Agnirūpānstathaivān'yān namasyāmi pitr̥naham.
Agniśōmamayaṁ viśvaṁ ētadaśēṣataḥ.
Yē tu tējasi yē caitē sōmasūryāgnimūrtayaḥ.
Jagatsvarūpiṇaścaiva brahmasvarūpiṇaḥ.
Tēbhyō̕khilēbhyō yōgibhyaḥ pitr̥bhyō yatamānasaḥ.
Namō namō namastē mē prasīdantu svadhābhujaḥ.
