Magh Gupt Navratri has an important place in Hinduism, it is a festival which is celebrated for nine days. The nine forms of Goddess Shakti or Durga are worshiped during these nine days. Gupt Navratri is also known as 'Shakambhari Navratri or Gayatri Navratri'. Gupt Navratri is celebrated from the first Pratipada of the Hindu month of Magha to the Navami of Shukla Paksha. In the English calendar, this fast falls between the months of January-February.

What is Magh Gupt Navratri?

Festival of Magh Gupt Navratri During the ancient Vedic age, this Gupt Navratri was celebrated only by a few accomplished 'Sadhaks' or sages. Magh Gupt Navratri has special significance for Tantriks and Sadhaks. In Gupt Navratri, Aghori perform rituals secretly to prove Tantric tantra mantra. Hence Gupt Navratri is mostly popular for Tantric worship. During Gupt Navratri, tantriks invoke Goddess Durga to seek her blessings of wisdom, wealth and success.

Navratri according to Astrology

According to astrology, there are a total of four Navratris in a year. Out of which two are Chaitra and Sharadiya and two are Gupt Navratri. The Navratri that falls in the month of Magh is called Magh Gupt Navratri. In Gupt Navratri, 10 Mahavidyas Maa Kali, Tara Devi, Tripura Sundari, Bhuvaneshwari, Mata Chinnamasta, Tripura Bhairavi, Maa Dhumravati, Maa Banglamukhi, Matangi and Kamla Devi are worshipped.

During the Magha Gupt Navratri period, Hindu devotees chant mantras dedicated to Goddess Durga to invoke her divine blessings. Reciting religious texts like 'Durga Saptashati', 'Devi Mahatmya' and 'Shrimad-Devi Bhagwat' is considered very auspicious.

Hindu devotees also chant 'Durga Battisi' or 32 different names of Goddess Shakti during Magh Gupt Navratri. This practice is believed to end all problems and helps the devotee to attain peace in life.

How to do Magha Gupt Navratri?

According to belief, worship should be done during Magh Gupt Navratri like other Navratras. Pratiprada i.e. Ghatasthapana should be done on the first day while taking a vow of fasting for nine days. After Ghatasthapana, Maa Durga should be worshiped daily in the morning and evening. In Gupt Navratri, cloves and batasha should be offered to Maa Durga. On the day of Ashtami or Navami, Navratra fasting should be done along with Kanya Pujan.
