Bijli Mahadev Temple is famous for its miraculous power. It should be said that Mahadev is glory. This temple is a very wonderful temple of Lord Shiva. In this temple, thunder lightning falls on the Shivling after every 12 years.

Because of which the Shiva Lingam breaks into pieces. The priest then collects each of the pieces and joins them with a paste made of naz, lentil flour and some unsalted butter, and after a few days the lingam is back to its original form.

In this temple of lightning, it is said that the long pole attracts divine blessings in the form of lightning. Whose height is about 60 feet. This stick shines like a silver needle in the sun in winter when there is snow all around.

The temple was built by Raja Jagat Singh in 1652 and is believed to be a thousand years old. It is believed that the temple was originally constructed as a small shrine by the Pandavas during their exile in the Himalayas.

Every year, thousands of pilgrims come to the temple to seek blessings from Lord Shiva. The temple also has a fair associated with it, which is held in the month of August. This fair is one of the most important festivals of the region and is celebrated with great fervour and enthusiasm.

Mythological recognition of Bijli Mahadev Temple

It is believed that in ancient times a demon named Kulant had made this place his abode, he had come from Lahore Spiti to Mathan village via Mandi Ghogghardhar in the form of a huge dragon. The dragon-like monster wanted to submerge this place in water. Due to which he stopped the flow of Vyas river. So that all the creatures living there die by drowning in the water. Knowing this intention of demon Kulant, Lord Shiva killed his dragon-like demon Kulant with his trishul. Immediately after the death of Kulanta, his huge body was converted into a huge mountain. It is believed that the city got its name Kullu from the name of Kulant.
