
Pradosh Vrat is an important fast for Hindus. This fast is observed twice every month. Lord Shiva is pleased by observing this fast. Pradosh Vrat is considered a holy fasting day. Pradosh Vrat falls on 'Trayodashi' every lunar fortnight according to the Hindu calendar. If Pradosh Vrat falls on a Tuesday, then this fast is called 'Bhaum Pradosh Vrat'. The word 'Bhauma' is another name for the planet Mars.
The period of twilight is considered most suitable for performing the Bhaum Pradosh Vrat ritual. Hindu Puranas state that the divine couple Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati are in the most favorable and proptious mood during this time. Devotees worship Lord Shiva and observe a fast on this day for fruitful results.

This day has a special significance, on this day Mangal pleased Lord Shiva by doing penance and attained Mangal Lok. Hence it is believed that the person who observes Bhaum Pradosh Vrat and worships Lord Shiva, all his wishes are fulfilled. The power of Bhaum Pradosh Vrat is such that it removes all obstacles and negative forces in life and also purifies the surrounding environment. The person who has Mangal dosha in his horoscope should do this worship and fast. One who observes the Bhaum Pradosh Vrat receives the divine blessings of Lord Shiva. By observing the Bhaum Pradosh fast, childless couples get children and eventually attain salvation.
