Nested atop the lush Deeba Range at an altitude of approximately 2,400 meters (7,880 feet) in the Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand lies Gujru Garhi (also spelled Gujdu Garhi).

Before King Ajay Pal unified the Garhwal region in the 14th century, the region was divided into 52 independent hill principalities or forts (Garhs). Gujru Garh was one of these strategic military strongholds. Due to its high elevation and panoramic views of surrounding valleys, it served as a vital defense outpost during regional battles, including the Gorkha invasions.
According to local folklore, the history of Gujru Garhi traces back to the epic Mahabharata. Legend has it that Prince Nakula (the fourth Pandava brother) visited this peaceful mountain peak seeking inner peace after the battle of Kurukshetra and laid the spiritual foundation of this sacred site.
At the flat hilltop of Gujru Garhi stands the revered shrine dedicated to Maa Bhagwati. Surrounded by dense forests of oak and rhododendron, the temple attracts local devotees who pray for protection, strength, and fulfillment of wishes.
Near the temple complex lie prehistoric rock-cut caves and deep trenches. Historians believe these caves were used as natural shelters by ancient inhabitants and later served as hiding spots and defense trenches for soldiers during wartime.
In an unusual geographical marvel for a steep mountain peak, there is an ancient water well right on the hilltop. Though surrounded by dense forest, this well has held water for centuries.
Being the highest point in Patti Gujdu, Gujru Garhi offers a 360-degree panoramic view of the snow-capped Himalayan peaks. On a clear day, visitors can spot ranges stretching from Yamunotri in western Garhwal to the majestic Trishul peak in Kumaon.
