Gurudev, those who have only daughters and no sons, do they go to hell after death? Is it necessary to have a son?
The words that came out of the mouth of Padma Vibhushan Peethadheeshwar Jagadguru Ramanandacharya Swami Shri Rambhadracharya Ji tell us that there is no difference between a son and a daughter. Both are God's unique gifts. The scriptures say that a daughter is equal to 100 sons. If she is given to a good person, she is educated and married to a good person, she is made a cultured person and we have seen that daughters make as much name as sons do not.
It is clearly written in the scriptures -
"Satputra sama kanya adi patra pradite"
That is - if a daughter is given good sanskars, she is married off properly, she is educated and cultured, then she is considered equal to a hundred sons.
“Ram bhajat bitiya bhali, prabhu pad vimukh na poot.
Shabari tar gayi Ram bhaji, dhundhakaar bha sapoot॥”
Meaning – If a daughter worships Ram then she is the best. And if a son is averse to God, then he is of no use.
We have seen time and again in history and society that daughters have glorified the name of their parents more than sons.
Did Janak ji's name continue through his sons?
No, Janak ji's name became immortal through Mother Sita (Janaki).
Son or daughter – if both worship God, then they can save their parents from hell and take them to Vaikunth.
The scriptures say –
It is clear from this that the ancestors are also liberated and offered tarpan from daughter’s lineage.
It is said in Sanskrit –
A son purifies only one clan, but a daughter purifies both the clans (father’s and in-laws’).
Conclusion
Gurudev’s answer is that – It is not necessary to have a son.
Both daughter and son are equal. Any child (son or daughter) who worships God and walks on the right path, is the one who uplifts his/her parents.
So no one needs to worry that if there are only daughters then there will be hell. No.
Rather daughters can become the pride of parents and a means of salvation.
