The temple of Sikri Mata is a Hindu temple located in a Sikri Kalan village in Modi Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh, India. This temple is also known as Sri Mahamaya Devi Temple. This temple is very famous in the surrounding village. This temple of Sikri Mata is very ancient. It is believed that this temple is about 400 years old. Sikri Mata is considered to be an incarnation of Goddess Durga. This temple has idols of all the deities.
A huge fair is organized every year in the Chaitra Navratras at Sikri Mata Temple. In which lakhs of devotees take part in the year and see Mahamaya Devi in the temple.
It is believed that one day, Mother appeared to Jallim Giri Baba in a dream. Jalim Giri Baba excavated at this place the next day, then the idol of Mother was found during the excavation. Then Jallim Giri Baba built the temple of Mother at this place. Gradually this temple started to become famous in this area.
There is a vat tree in the premises of the temple. In this revolutionary movement of 1857, many revolutionaries of the village were hanged by the british government on this tree and many prayed to the mother in the temple and the mother appeared and saved many revolutionaries by hiding them in the cave built in the temple. Since then the recognition of this temple has increased a lot.
Devotees chant this tree to fulfill their wishes and salute all those revolutionaries.
It is believed that newly married couple from the surrounding area comes to the temple to receive blessings and to bring blessings of mother to the newborn child.
The festival of Navaratri is the special festival of this temple, during this time, lakhs of devotees visit the temple. Fairs are organized around the temple, especially in the Navratras of Chaitra. In which millions of people take part.
